Solar car ports to be installed in Hailsham car park to deliver energy savings - Wealden District Council

Approval has been given by Wealden District Council to proceed with construction of the solar photovoltaic (PV) car port system at Vicarage Lane Car Park in Hailsham.

Wealden District Council’s Cabinet approved the works which will contribute towards the sustainability of the council offices and reduce carbon emissions, while making productive use of an existing asset.

The scheme will see approximately 456 solar panels fitted above parking spaces at the Vicarage Lane Car Park in Hailsham. Once operational, the solar car ports are expected to generate around 217,000 kWh of renewable electricity each year, which will offset the energy used at the council offices and lower energy costs.

It is also expected to deliver around £54,000 in annual energy savings, with any electricity generated that is not used by the council being exported back to the grid.
