EAST SUSSEX COUNTY COUNCIL
NOTICE OF MAKING OF AN ORDER HIGHWAYS ACT 1980 and WILDLIFE AND COUNTRYSIDE ACT 1981

THE EAST SUSSEX (Public Footpath Chalvington with Ripe 18 (part)) PUBLIC PATH DIVERSION ORDER 2026

The above Order was made on 7 th August 2026 under Section 119 of the Highways Act 1980.

The diversion is being sought by the landowners to reflect the used route that has been established at the
eastern end of the affected path; and for reasons of development at the eastern end of the affected route.
The County Council considers that the diversion satisfies the tests laid out within section 119 of the Highways

 That the termination point of the path or way should be as substantially as convenient to the public as
the existing point.
 That the path or way will not be substantially less convenient to the public.
 That it is expedient to confirm the order having regard to the effect the diversion would have on public
enjoyment of the path or way as a whole

The Order will divert part of public footpath Chalvington with Ripe 18 running for 375 metres in a
east south easterly direction from TQ 5235 1120 to TQ 5272 1113; then in a south easterly direction
for 397 metres to TQ 5300 1085; to a new route having a width of 5 metres and running for 414
metres in a generally south-easterly direction from TQ 5235 1119 to TQ 5263 1089, then for 196
metres in a north-easterly direction to TQ 5279 1100, then for 273 metres in a south-easterly
direction to TQ 5300 1085.
